Hello Sailor, a vibrant waterfront venue in Half Moon Bay, Auckland, is looking for a confident and charismatic Maître D’ to lead our front-of-house operations. Overlooking the marina, our restaurant combines relaxed seaside charm with a lively atmosphere, offering great food, drinks, and entertainment.

Salary: $26 – $32 per hour
Job Type: Full-time (40 hours/week, Wednesday to Sunday)

Job Requirements for Maître D’ Position

To be considered for this role, applicants should meet the following:

• Proven experience as a Maître D’, Host, or FOH lead
• Strong communication and multitasking abilities
• Passion for hospitality, music, and food culture
• Professional appearance and calm under pressure
• Must be legally allowed to work in New Zealand
• Knowledge of POS systems and booking platforms is an asset
• Experience handling guest feedback and managing waitlists during busy shifts

Responsibilities for Maître D’ Position

• Welcome and seat guests with warmth and professionalism
• Manage booking systems and coordinate table turns
• Oversee service flow across dining, bar, and outdoor areas
• Support and direct front-of-house staff during service
• Respond to customer inquiries, feedback, and special requests
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction

Other Responsibilities

• Maintain reservation logs and guest preferences
• Ensure venue presentation and ambience remain top-notch
• Communicate with kitchen and bar teams for smooth service
• Assist with staff scheduling and daily FOH briefings
• Help train new hires and support team onboarding
