Pāmu —Landcorp is seeking an experienced Assistant Production Manager to join its team at Landsdown Dairy, located just 14 minutes south of Balclutha in the picturesque Otago region of New Zealand.

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise and strong leadership skills. You will be expected to bring the following qualifications and experience to the role:
- Dairy Farming Experience: A solid foundation in dairy farming, ideally with at least a year of practical experience. A qualification such as ITO Level 2 is a bonus.
- Skills in Pasture Management & Feed Planning: You must have experience in managing pasture, planning feed requirements, and ensuring the optimal health of dairy cows.
- Farm Equipment Experience: Comfort and confidence in operating farm equipment, including side/sides, is essential.
- Health & Safety Focus: A proactive approach to maintaining health, safety, and environmental standards is crucial. You should be able to identify and address any potential safety hazards.
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to work efficiently with your team and other stakeholders. The ability to take the lead in various operational areas is important.
- Driver’s Licence: A restricted or full driver’s licence is required to operate farm vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities
As the Assistant Production Manager at Landsdown Dairy, your role will involve a variety of key responsibilities, including:
- Feed Planning & Pasture Management: Supporting the team in the planning and management of feed for the dairy herd, ensuring that the farm hits its production targets. You will play a critical role in managing pasture quality and feed distribution throughout the farm.
- Milking Operations: Leading the milking process, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring the quality of milk produced. You will oversee the proper operation of the milking system, ensuring that it runs efficiently and meets industry standards.
- Animal Health Management: Monitoring the health and well-being of the herd, and working to maintain high standards of animal welfare. You will assist in rearing new stock, managing breeding programs, and overseeing animal health assessments.
- Effluent Systems & Environmental Compliance: Overseeing the management of effluent systems to ensure that the farm complies with environmental regulations. You will also be responsible for ensuring that waste management practices meet industry standards.
- Coaching & Team Leadership: Providing guidance and support to junior team members. You will help with day-to-day farm operations and be involved in coaching staff to improve their skills.
- Filling in for the Production Manager: When required, you will fill in for the Production Manager, taking on their duties and ensuring the farm’s operations run smoothly in their absence.
