Slovakian Government scholarship for international students and researchers 2023 is a fully funded scholarship. These scholarships are provided for both master’s and doctoral degrees. The award can total up to 734 euros per month.

Scholarships for graduate students, teachers at the university level, researchers, and artists from abroad. The National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic was established in 2005 with approval from the Slovak Republic’s government to support students, Ph.D., university teachers, researchers, and artistic mobility.

Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic provides funding for the NSP, or National Scholarship Program.

In addition, the scholarship is designed to cover the living expenses of international scholarship recipients. At the same time, they are studying, conducting research, creating art, or teaching at Slovakian universities and research institutions, including food, lodging, and other living expenses. The scholarship recipient may ask their host institution for assistance with housing and other formalities associated with entering and remaining on Slovak Republic territory, or they may take care of all the requirements themselves.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Slovakian National Scholarship Program for international students, a candidate must meet each of the conditions listed below:

  • Must be a student of universities outside Slovakia
  • You must be a master’s student, a student in the second level of higher education, or a student who has completed at least 2.5 years of study in the university coursework in the same study program as the application deadline.
  • Must be accepted by a public, private, or state university in Slovakia for academic mobility to study there while enrolled in higher education outside of Slovakia.
  • Ph.D. students accepted by a public, private, or state university or research institution in Slovakia who received their university education or scientific training outside of Slovakia are qualified to pursue a doctoral study program (for example, at the Slovak Academy of Sciences) for academic mobility to study or conduct research in Slovakia.
  • International university instructors, researchers, and artists are invited to spend time teaching. Conducting research or performing art in Slovakia by a non-profit organization with a Slovakian headquarters and a current certificate of eligibility to conduct research and development.

The NSP Does Not Support

  • International students and Ph.D. students accepted for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies in Slovakia, as well as those enrolled in full-time higher education in Slovakia who wish to have their studies funded by the NSP
  • Also, international applicants who spent a total of 12 months in the Slovak Republic within the 36-month window before the application deadline. 
  • International applicants currently in Slovakia on a scholarship through another program supported by public funds (such as the International Visegrad Fund, Erasmus+, CEEPUS, bilateral agreements, etc.)

Application Procedures

On the website www.scholarships.sk, students can apply for the Slovakian scholarship for international students online. Note that at least six weeks before the application deadline, the online application system is made available. Only when the online application system is already open can applications be submitted.
