We are currently seeking a Dairy Calf Rearer to join our team at Bassets Dairy, located approximately 10 minutes south of Westport, on the scenic West Coast of New Zealand. This part-time, fixed-term position runs from early July 2025 to mid-January 2026, with a guaranteed minimum of 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will play a vital role in rearing our next generation of dairy cattle with care and professionalism.

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will be:
- Passionate about animal welfare, showing genuine care for the well-being of young calves
- Proactive in maintaining hygiene and raising any concerns early
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Familiar with or open to learning farming practices, particularly calf rearing
- In possession of a restricted or full driver’s license
- Flexible with working hours based on seasonal needs
Previous experience in calf rearing or on a dairy farm is a strong advantage, but not essential—enthusiasm and a willingness to learn will go a long way.
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Feeding, weighing, and drafting calves
- Drenching and monitoring calf health
- Keeping facilities clean and up to hygiene standards
- Supporting other farm operations, including occasional milking or general farm duties
- Ensuring that all tasks align with the farm’s health and safety and animal welfare protocols
