We are currently seeking a motivated and hands-on Construction Projects Assistant to join our team at the Macraes Operation in Otago, New Zealand. In this role, you will support minor construction and infrastructure activities across the mine site, working closely with project managers and field teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery. Job Summary
- Position: Construction Projects Assistant

- Location: Macraes Mine Site, Otago, New Zealand
- Employment Type: Permanent / Schedule: Full-time, 9-day fortnight (7:00 AM – 4:30 PM) with a 3-day weekend every second week (subject to change)
Job Requirements of the Construction Projects Assistant Position
- Language: English
- Education: Trade qualification in engineering, construction, or a similar field (preferred)
- Experience:
- Experience in a mining, construction, or trade role
- A high level of mechanical aptitude is required
- Equipment operation and rigging/slinging experience is an advantage
- Licensing: Full and current driver’s licence (manual vehicle competency required)
- Workplace: On-site (no remote option)
Responsibilities of the Construction Projects Assistant Position
- Conduct daily inspections of infrastructure, embankments, and water supply systems.
- Assist in constructing minor earthworks, fencing, pipework, and site infrastructure.
- Perform general maintenance and repairs on the pump and pipework systems
- Operate earthmoving equipment for minor civil projects
- Carry out compliance monitoring and site reporting
- Oversee contractors to ensure safety and policy compliance during project execution
Other Responsibilities
- Support environmental and safety goals across construction activities
- Maintain accurate records and assist in documentation processes
- Participate in team briefings, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
- Assist in implementing continuous improvement processes onsite
- Contribute to a collaborative, team-based culture
- Support additional operational or maintenance tasks as assigned
