The aerospace and defense company Babcock International Group has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly-skilled engineering services for over a century.

Locally in New Zealand, their Centre of Engineering partners with the Royal New Zealand Navy to provide the entire fleet with complete engineering, maintenance, repair, and overhaul services. As the Navy’s strategic maritime partner, we also undertake ship conversions, life extensions, retrofits, and major repairs in dry-dock or water for their customers.

Located on the Devonport Naval Base, this is a great opportunity to work in partnership with our customers and see the results of your hard work first-hand.

To provide you with some local context, some of the programs our team is proud to be a part of involve:

  • Providing emergency medical and search & rescue aviation services through our Aviation & Critical Services business;
  • Designing and supporting key systems for submarines and surface ships through our Marine business;
  • Providing fleet-wide life support and asset management services for Navy customers;
  • Managing critical assets for a range of sectors through our Land Business.

 Furthermore, reporting to the Unit Leader and based on the Devonport Naval Base, this position will be key to the ongoing success of the workshop. Also, working closely with the existing team will expose you to a huge range of exciting environments and could be the stepping stone to becoming trade qualified.

Role Benefits

Responsibilities

  • Hot Work & Fire Sentry
  • Confined Space Sentry
  • Working at Height Sentry
  • Surface preparation for coatings application. (Grinding, Sanding, Chipping, or Abrasive Blasting)
  • Coatings applications (Painting)
  • Basic Grinding & Welding Skills
  • Gas Testing of Confined spaces and compartments

 Requirements

  • You will have the desire to work hard and learn along the way.
  • Able to think on your feet
  • Also, the ability to work under pressure as part of a team or individually
