Job Description

Join our team as an Operations Manager in Whakatane, leading a dynamic team to deliver conservation excellence across diverse landscapes. You’ll work closely with stakeholders and support partnerships throughout the region, reporting to the Regional Director, Eastern North Island. Your role includes managing conservation outcomes, nurturing team wellbeing, and ensuring Te Tiriti partnerships are central to our work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee strategic and operational demands, providing leadership in biodiversity, recreation/historical, and community engagement conservation
  • Inspire and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and inclusivity
  • Establish and strengthen partnerships with the community, whānau, hapū, iwi, and mana whenua, honoring Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Foster strong stakeholder relationships and maintain engagement with commercial, community, and government entities
  • Lead the team in delivering high-quality conservation outputs and growth initiatives
  • Create a safety-first environment with consistent safety practices

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong people leadership and team development commitment
  • Proven operational leadership in a large and complex organization (environmental/resource management desirable)
  • Experience in stakeholder and community partnership, engaging with mana whenua, iwi, hapū, whānau, Councils, and Government agencies
  • Strong planning and delivery management in a fast-paced environment
  • Pragmatic critical thinking, able to manage multiple complexities
  • Resilience to navigate through pressure, challenges, or ambiguity
  • Political astuteness to identify and manage risks or provide solutions
