The University of Melbourne offers the Melbourne Research Scholarship and the Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship to outstanding international and domestic students enrolling in a graduate research degree.
Benefits of Graduate Research Scholarships
- Full Fee Offset: Up to two years for a Master by Research degree or up to four years for a doctoral degree.
- Living Allowance: $37,000 per year pro rata (2024 full-time study rate) for up to two years for a Master by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for a doctoral degree. This allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave.
- Relocation Grant: $2000 for students moving from within Australia (outside Victoria) or $3000 for students moving from outside Australia.
- Health Cover: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students requiring a student visa.
Fee Offset Scholarships
- Full Fee Offset: Up to two years for a Master by Research degree or up to four years for a doctoral degree.
- Amount: Full fee remission and up to $135,000
- Duration: One or more years
- Quantity: 600 scholarships available
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- Apply for and meet the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or
- Be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne.
Application Process for Graduate Research Scholarships
- New Students: If you have applied for a graduate research course by the application deadline, you will automatically be considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships. You will receive a notification within ten business days after submitting your course application.
- Deferred Students: If you have deferred commencement and want to be reconsidered for a scholarship, submit an online application by 31 October. You will receive a notification that a scholarship application has been added to your record within ten business days of submission.
- Current Students: If you are currently enrolled in a graduate research course and seek a scholarship, submit an online application by 31 October. You will receive a notification that a scholarship application has been added to your record within ten business days of submission.
