We are seeking a skilled Drainlayer who is motivated to contribute to significant civil infrastructure projects involving water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
As a Drainlayer with Downer’s New Plymouth team, you will play a key role in delivering infrastructure drainage and reticulation works. This includes the construction and upgrade of water, wastewater, and stormwater reticulation systems, as well as backflow prevention and testing to meet strict contract specifications. You will be responsible for planning, organising, and managing on-site activities, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Additionally, you will liaise with subcontractors and coordinate their work to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget.

Requirements
To excel in this role, you will need:

Proven civil construction experience, preferably with exposure to water, wastewater, or stormwater infrastructure projects.

Relevant drain laying or reticulation serviceperson qualifications (highly desirable).

Current Class 2 driver’s license along with WTR endorsements.

Experience working with PE and PVC pipe installation methods; a PE Welding certificate is considered a valuable asset.

Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality outcomes, and effective teamwork.

Positive attitude, reliability, and the ability to work productively both independently and within a team.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and control day-to-day operational activities on site to meet project timelines and specifications.
- Deliver all assigned tasks to the satisfaction of clients and ensure that all productivity, quality, and safety targets are consistently met or exceeded.
- Coordinate subcontractors’ activities, monitoring their work quality and progress to align with overall project goals.
- Strictly adhere to all health and safety regulations and promote a culture of safety across the worksite.
- Maintain clear and open communication with project teams, supervisors, and clients to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support a collaborative team environment.
